We finally got some new tattoo ink

We finally got some new tattoo ink and are currently attempting to put some new designs on. YEA! We started one to cover up an old one on my arm. I picked out a tribal/flower design that's really cool.

But it's really hard to get adjusted to a new gun.

We only got about half way done with it tonight and I had to give in till later. It HURTS!

We both have about a million different things we want put on =)

Here's what mine will look like -

garden dreams

Ok I figure by now I should get to listing all the crap I'm attempting to grow this year LOL! There's a ton and I don't even have all of it planted yet. I figure since the farmers still don't have all their fields in yet I still have a little time for the few things I still need to plant.

In the garden -
  • peaches & cream corn
  • ruby corn
  • jack-o-lantern pumpkins
  • mini pumpkins
  • white onions
  • yellow onions
  • pickling cucumbers
  • zucchini
  • spaghetti squash
  • green beans
  • sugar baby watermelons
  • many different tomato plants
  • multi colored bell peppers
  • bananna peppers
  • multi mix hot peppers
  • 3 kinds of eggplant
  • red cabbage
  • rasberries
  • blackberries
  • blueberries
In pot & containers -
  • strawberries
  • thyme
  • basils
  • rosemary
  • parsley
  • stevia
  • sage
  • mints
  • lettuce
  • arugula
I planted these for pretties -
  • black dragons
  • hostas
  • 4 other pretty leaf plants (can't remember the names!)
  • hollyhocks
I still have to plant -
  • sugar snap peas
  • carrots
  • radishes
  • brocolli
  • sunflowers
  • morning glories
  • garlic
  • more peppers!
  • more onions!
  • more tomatoes!
I hope with all this extra food that things will be alot better this year. I plan to can & dehydrate as much as possible. I still need to get a outside propane burner so it don't get so hot inside while canning. Oh and an actual dehydrator would be GREAT too!

We're still using things I dehydrated and canned last fall/winter. Heck I STILL have stuff frozen in the freezer I haven't been able to can yet! I ran out of jars last year -- still need to get more of them at yard sales.

internet out here

I forgot to tell everyone about the internet out here. When we first got here all I could find for internet was some crappy *ss dial up from netzer().

I thought I'd died!

But then I found it -- the trick -- wireless internet through the power company. YEA!!

It was a bit more each month -- but ssooooo much better.

So if you was wondering how I am now posting, that's how.

our other pets

I ran out of time yesterday to mention about our other pets.

First - #3 found a baby alligator snapping turtle out in the yard a couple days ago. Since he's always wanted a turtle we're attempting to keep it for at least the summer. Not so sure it'll be any longer than that because inside heated space is at a premium here! But we went to the local pet store and bought it some turtle food and some guppies. This is like day 4 and it's eating the turtle food and 1 guppy is gone.

Fred, our dog, is really liking it out here. He still has a school bus to bark at everyday (the neighbor kids) and MUCH more yard to run in. He's been chasing off birds & coons like crazy! Unfortunately we are still having problems with him not liking anyone except us & SR. So if anyone comes over we stick him in the kennel. He's gotten alot better with the little neighbor boy that comes over everyday.

Boots, the cat, is loving it out here too! We got her fixed after she went in heat for the first time in January. So we don't have anything to worry about except her getting hit by a car. She has killed about 25 mice so far! Even SR likes her now LOL! She also had a small squirrel one day but I'm unsure if it was her or the neighbor's cat because she didn't keep it. I don't think mice will be very bad here this winter =)

There's always more, but I'm trying not to overwhelm everyone!

May 25, 2009

It's a couple of days later but here's the more I was talking about =)

When we got here SR bought 6 hens & 1 rooster -- Araucana/Americana breed variety. When one died, he went and bought 3 more. So we were supposed to have 8 hens & 1 rooster -- not so! It was more like 3 roosters & 6 hens! He was heated over that LOL!

Then the gnats hit. We lost 6 - almost all in one day. It really bothered SR since he'd paid so much for them.

I finally talked SR into getting some more, but this time getting some that are full grown and already laying. He finally agreed. There was a lady on Craigslist that had some 2 year old Rhode Island Reds for $8 a piece. We went and picked up 5 of them.

While there we got ahold of 4 RI Reds and then the other one was a silver-laced wyandotte. They are GREAT layers! And adjusted quite well here with little transition lag. Although they are a little agressive toward the younger 3 A/As that we have. For anyone who is not sure on what they look like here's some pictures -

This is a Rhode Island Red. We have 4 hens.

This is a Silver-laced Wyandotte. We have 1 hen.

These are Araucana/Americana chickens. They come in alot of different variations. SR wanted to start breeding these -- that's why he had them. We now only have 3 hens.

Also while at that farm to pick up the hens we also got 2 bunnies. The kids have been wanting some for quite awhile. Unfortunately Darkside thought he picked up 2 does and he didn't. They are 2 bucks. Oh well, doesn't matter much to us since we weren't attempting to get SR back into rabbits!

I'll write more later! Just way too much to write about -- life right now is in HYPER fast forward!

back home

Well when we talked to Darkside's dad (SR) about staying here for the next year, the biggest concern for everyone was whether or not there was going to be enough room for everyone. Cause SR's house is pretty small, which is fine for just him, but you could see the problem for all of us.

So we sat back and took into consideration all the possibilities of how to work things. We quickly decided that another room was needed - at least.

So some things we have changed or are still planning to change:
  • fixed the shower
  • cleaned out the house
  • cleaned out the shed
  • hauled off stuff SR didn't want or I convinced him he didn't need!! LOL!
  • planted strawberries
  • planted some pretty stuff around front tree
  • tilled & half planted the new garden
  • planted some berry bushes in each corner of the garden
  • planted all my herbs into pots
  • attempted to clean the blinds -- did NOT work!
And the main thing is add a room! It was difficult, and took alot of brain power, but it's done (mostly) and it is VERY nice.

It's about 9.5 feet square, which is perfect for the two of us. I've got enough room to have my armoire, dresser, desk, and bed (of course!). Yes it's cramped but I don't mind -- everything has it's place and I'll know if it's not there =)

The outside is completely finished except for paint but the inside............. well, that's another story! It only has temporary power (a drop cord), the floor isn't covered or sealed yet, and the insulation & drywall will have to be put in later (before winter). But it'll all be finished soon =)

And Darkside got a job offer yesterday too! If everything works out with it we'll be all set!

I am so happy! Things are really falling into place nicely.

There's more but I'll have to write it tomorrow.

back home

Talk about a big mess! Everything and anything that we thought was going to happen didn't. Oh well that's how things here usually work =)

First we sold the house. We didn't know it but the guy who bought it was only doing it for the city although that's not what we were lead to believe during the negotiations. But who cares! We managed to only lose $200 + taxes & repairs from the price we paid for the house, so we did pretty good.

But we didn't end up with enough money to be able to go get a new place. Rent here is VERY expensive, plus the only thing I could find was 2 bedrooms - no one would rent to all of us for a small place like that.

So we worked out a deal to stay with Darkside's dad for the next year. To do this it was necessary to add a room on to his house, which we did.

We also got an actual garden!

More about all this tomorrow, I'm a little under the weather these past few days and need more sleep.
