Song for a Fifth Child

A newborn breastfeedingImage via Wikipedia

The following is by Ruth Hulburt Hamilton
and was published in the Lady's Home Journal in 1958 as

"Song for a Fifth Child."
Mother, oh Mother, come shake out your cloth
empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
hang out the washing and butter the bread,
sew on a button and make up a bed.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.
Oh, I've grown shiftless as Little Boy Blue
(lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
(pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo).
The shopping's not done and there's nothing for stew
and out in the yard there's a hullabaloo
but I'm playing Kanga and this is my S
Look! Aren't her eyes the most wonderful hue?
(lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
for children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs.
Dust go to sleep.
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.

I love this poem - so true!

went out

I said I'd explain more about our night out Saturday, well here it is. =)

We had a pretty good time. I was able to get ready in less than an hour *YEA!* but that didn't include lashes. I couldn't get them to work for some reason? But I did get to use my new gel liner, I really like it!

I got to try a new shot that I seen someone on youtube do, it's called a Hand Job. Darkside had fun going up and asking one of the female bartenders for that! LOL! It don't particularly taste the greatest, but very potent.

But the only down side to the whole night was when a friend said I was mouthy. That just shocked the hell out of me! I've been trying to unbiasedly look at my self and my actions of now and in the past - especially around this person - and I just don't see how they could say that. Nope just drawing a blank of why they would say that.

You know maybe it's all just a big joke? a mind game? That's the only thing I can come up with. If so then that's crap!

*edited to add* that it was just completely rude for someone to say something like that. I would never do something like that to someone.

Oh well. as they say life goes on....

death

After dreaming about being at the bar and everything the other night - the news I received on Sunday was just a little shocking.

We went to the bar Saturday night and had a pretty good time (more on that in a different post). We did spend the majority of our time out back because it was so packed. Since we were outside Darkside only got to request one song and we didn't even get to hear it. But things were like any other weekend pretty much.

On Sunday afternoon a friend of ours texted us to tell about something they had heard from someone. The dj committed suicide that morning at home.

Once I read the text I went into the house and showed Darkside & SR and we all just kinda sat there stunned for a minute.

This was very shocking and I'm not exactly sure what to think of it still, days later.

Darkside was just getting into bringing in music for him each week.

I just really don't know.

hair color

I posted a new picture for my profile. I don't know why but I really didn't like the other one. Plus alot of people never exactly know what my hair looks like -- well there it is this week! LOL!

Actually, I last dyed it about 2 months ago. For some odd reason the black didn't take too well. It's only on the bottom half/third of my hair.

I do plan to do something with my hair soon, just not sure when.

only in my dream, thankfully....!

Well I just woke up from having it so hopefully it's still fresh in my mind =)

The dream starts out like any other Friday night pretty much (not the last 2 though). We're heading from picking up someone and going to the bar. We get there and it's pretty much like a normal Friday night.

Till it's time to leave, that's when things get weird. The bouncers and bartenders are picking and choosing who gets to go home with who. And they are basing their choices on safety. Like for example there's this guy that came there on a bike that they don't think can ride it home, or even walk home for that matter, and they ask us to take him home. A little odd, I know, but we vaguely knew the guy and I was like - Wow! it's cool they are looking out for their customers, so we take him home.

Then on Saturday night we went out alone, but for some reason Darkside had to leave. So I start listening in on this other groups conversation and notice that one couple is trying to talk this cute little thing into going home with their single guy friend. When they walk up to the door to leave, I figure what the hell I'll leave too, and I get up and follow.

That's when it gets super weird. The bouncer tells that cute little thing she can't leave if she plans on going home with that single guy, unless she passes their live remote with 2 of the lady bartenders that had the night off. WHAT?! So she goes back into the line and is attempting to correct her makeup and hair -- I guess trying to look less drunk? And the bouncers are hollering next, so I by pass that group and walk up to the door. I get up there and they say -- oh, ok, your fine, Have a good night -- and wave me out the door.

Then I woke up.

I know why I had this dream - cause we plan to go out tonight.

The whole guy on the bike things is because I overheard someone say that there is this one guy who rides his bike up there and then gets too drunk to ride it home.

Darkside leaves the second night because it was discussed that if he kept working weekends how I wasn't going to the bar without him (it scares me to do that!).

Over hearing that exchange with the cute girl & that couple is something that would NOT surprise me at all at that bar.

The whole live remote things & the fixing of the makeup and hair is probably because I've become kinda addicted to watching youtube lately, and they are mostly makeup tutorials (LOL!).

The whole bouncers looking out for the customers thing is something from my subconscious. I always feel so bad to see people there at the bar making decisions that otherwise they wouldn't if they wasn't drunk. And I always feel bad to know that someone could of walked or like above rode a bike to there but can't realistically do the same going home. I know that it's their own fault for putting their selves in that position but it still makes me feel bad.

What surprised me about the whole thing is other than fact I believe there was a larger dance floor it was exactly the same bar we go to. And how real and exact the bouncers & bartenders looked. Makes me wonder if I haven't been looking just a tad to much at them! LOL!

deer =(

FawnImage via Wikipedia
Well I was just informed by the Kaos King that as he put the dog out he seen a deer close to the garden. GREAT, just GREAT! Well they've found it now. Hopefully Fred the dog can keep them scared enough to stay away.

No more letting Fred in except in the heat of the day!

stupid deer!

I think I might take up hunting this year! that'll teach them!

How I make herbed bread crumbs

I did a little photo tutorial the other day and I wanted to share it. I know that this has been done probably a million times, but one more won't hurt!

How I make herbed bread crumbs -

Start with any leftover breads you have. This can be buns, white bread, anything besides overly sweet bread. What I normally do is save all heels, extra buns or toast and put them in a baggie of some sort and throw them in the freezer. Then once a month or so I get them all out and sit them somewhere to air dry. If I'm in a hurry I'll throw it in the oven and turn it on till it gets hot then shut it back off. That usually dries it out pretty quick. Be careful though -- it can & will burn if you forget! (can ya tell I did that? LOL!)

But anyway once it's dry you just throw it in a food processor and chop it up. Then if you want you can add herbs, seasonings, or even Parmesan cheese. Bread crumbs made like this will last forever pretty much in a jar. I have gallon jars from pickles that I like to use for them.

New term for me here is home. Home means one of the following -- grown here at home, dried here at home, canned here at home, or made here at home. Not real original I know but....?

My dried home herbs are grown and dried here at home. They are a mix of 2 kinds of basil, lemon thyme, rosemary, sage, mint, and oregano.

We used these bread crumbs for meatballs that we made and pre-cooked, then froze for later this month. Haven't tried them yet, but I'm sure they're tasty!

Anyway here's the pictorial =)

I want my kids to learn honesty, good personal values, respect, and to learn & observe.

honesty
I believe that honesty is the most important lesson anyone can teach their kids because when your honest to yourself & others everything is easier. And I think it's far harder to learn to be honest than anything. This is something I was NOT taught as a child but had to learn as an adult. I believe it's never too late to learn honesty either!

good personal values
Without good personal values you are no one, except another follower. Personal values are not something that are set in stone to never change though. That is where alot of people stray. They are things that are constantly changing as you grow and experience life.

respect
I try to teach my children to respect themselves & others and how respect is earned. I believe that it is necessary to learn how to respect so that you may receive the respect you deserve.

to learn & observe
This is the hardest thing to teach children especially when all they want to do is -go,go,go!- But in order to live a full life it is necessary to continually learn and you can learn alot by just observing. Not only observe and learn about what is around them at the current time, but also what happened in the past and in other areas of the world.

Really I guess this should be number 1 on this list because if you teach a child to learn usually they will do the rest of these with the knowledge they will learn. But I am a real stickler on honesty.

garden update

Yesterday while at Walmart I picked up some more plants & seeds to put in the garden. I got some more green bean and watermelon seeds and some tomato, eggplant, and pepper plants. This should help fill in on some spots that are thin.

Oh and I also bought more stevia and sweet basil. Then when I went to plant it I rearranged some of my herbs so they would have more room.

We also planted some garlic and carrots tonight too.

This weekend Darkside is definitely going to have to put his fence up for his pumpkins, they are growing like crazy! He is excited because that means we'll be able to carve our own pumpkins this year.

garden update

I wanted to give an update to our garden, among other things.

Everything seems to be doing pretty good. One blueberry bush is a bit punier than the other. The green beans didn't sprout so well, but I've noticed with some of the seeds we planted it's kinda hit or miss. Maybe it's cause we supervised the kids doing it, instead of doing it ourselves. Oh and some of the eggplants are not looking so great.

I've already harvested a small amount of herbs YEA! I hurried up and dehydrated them to save for later. I've already used some and boy do they taste great! But I do think I crowded some of my herb plants, so I may have to separate them eventually. I've also started some sweet basil from seeds and they are finally sprouting.

And in just 2 short months I have already stocked up with a year's (or more!) supply of mouth hygiene products --- I LOVE living by a Walgreens & CVS!

I've also been stocking up on other things a little at a time. Like for instance I have a couple month's supply of tea bags, salad dressing, bbq sauce, seasonings, and air freshener.

I already had about a year's supply of shampoo & conditioner and laundry detergent.

I think this month is going to be a good month cause I already have a ton of coupons ready to go shopping. SR is always giving me shit about my coupons, but I LOVE them! And they do help out quite a bit. (although I've yet to go to the store and get $200-300 worth of groceries and only pay $50-100, came close a couple times - but not quite)

hit 2 deer =(

Well last night on the way to town -- to go coupon shopping -- I hit 2 deer. Yes 2 !! One right after the other (about 2 sec. between). I was going about 60 mph and not paying real close attention -- I was thinking about all the great deals I was going to be getting.

Plus you can't see crap that's in the ditches because no one has mowed the highway edges this year -- that grass is REALLY tall. But I would of never thought it was tall enough to hide 2 deer!

The car now looks like this -

I was planning on trading this car in on a new/different car -- NOT NOW! The hood is ruined, although it still latches. The headlight cover and brights light bulb need to be replaced too. Oh and the most lovely part? there is a small hole in the radiator. That's always fun & cheap to replace -- NOT!

But everyone in the car is fine, no injuries or anything. I'm thinking everything went smoothly because of the profile of the car.

The deer, unfortunately, are both dead -- instantly (thankfully!). I feel bad that they died but glad it was quick.

Darkside got called in to start working -- YEA!! But now we need him to be working on the car -- figures! UGH! He should be able to get it fixed in the next day or two.

play with a computer

Do you know what else I did this weekend? I got to play with a computer that wasn't mine -- it was a complete mess! I LOVED every minute of it!

Don't get me wrong, it aggravated the hell out of me -- but I got it fixed in the end! I spent 16 hours on it over 3 days altogether.

After taking it in and not saying how much I would charge to fix it, I realized how badly I needed to set up a charge system. So when I returned the computer to it's owner I told them - "sorry but I am charging you $25 - this time, next time will be MUCH more!"

Here's what I come up with - $25/3 hours of work | +$25/any editting of system files by hand

I've been hem/hauling around about doing some work for SR's brother because I wasn't sure what to charge --- now I know!

But I sure do love going through someone else's cp & deleting all the stuff that is built up!

going out to the bar

Wow I just realized it's been couple days since I lasted posted! I'm slacking! LOL!

It's because every weekend we've been going out to the bar with SR. Even though that's only on Friday & Saturday nights I usually spend Sunday recovering LOL! then I get knocked off track.

You see except for recently, we've not had the opportunity to go out to the bars. Well there was that time back in 2000 when we went 3 times.... of course I had just turned 21 that year....

But SR goes every weekend - hardly ever misses actually. He kept harping on us to come up and meet all his friends, so we caved. And since then we've been going regularly too.

Although I hate to admit it, it's quite fun! I love being able to see people I knew in a past life and see how they've change (good or bad). I also love people watching. Oh and one of the best parts - listening to music at a loud setting!

But that's the reason I keep getting thrown off on my regular posting =)
I'll try harder this week, promise!
